Currently focused on the study of pollutants in the environment, with a special emphasis on mercury biogeochemistry. This research mainly concentrates on understanding the processes that control the concentration of methylmercury in landscapes and its subsequent biomagnification in food webs.

Background and Research Focus

Has been actively involved in research that integrates ecosystem analysis, experimental approaches, biogeochemical methods, molecular techniques, and “omics” strategies. This comprehensive approach aids in investigating the environmental factors that influence mercury cycling in the environment and assessing human exposure to this pollutant.

Academic Contributions and Achievements

  • Published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, particularly focusing on mercury biogeochemistry and its environmental impacts.
  • Presented findings at various national and international conferences.
  • Contributed chapters to scientific books and journals, particularly in the field of environmental pollution and toxicology.

Project Involvement and Leadership

  • Led and participated in several research projects investigating the dynamics of mercury in various ecosystems.
  • Collaborated with other researchers and institutions on interdisciplinary projects combining biogeochemistry, ecology, and public health.

Teaching Experience

  • Taught courses and workshops on environmental science, pollution, and biogeochemistry.
  • Mentored graduate and undergraduate students in research projects related to environmental pollutants, with a focus on mercury.

Collaborations and Innovative Projects

  • Engaged in collaborative research with both academic and industry partners.
  • Participated in innovative projects aimed at understanding and mitigating the impacts of environmental pollutants, specifically mercury.

Funding and Grants

  • Successfully obtained grants and funding from various sources for research on the environmental fate of pollutants, particularly mercury.
  • Managed and directed funded projects, ensuring the effective use of resources for achieving research objectives.
